Mr Idris absolved the police of any blame after a closed-door meeting with the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Matthew Seiyefa, a director of the Department of State Services (DSS) from Bayelsa state, has been appointed as acting director-general of the service. "In fact we are going to issue a (press) release (on that)", he said.

The decision to fire the top intelligence chief is believed to be connected with a Tuesday morning blockade of the country's legislature - the National Assembly, NASS.

Recall that Prof Osinbajo on Tuesday ordered the sack of the Director General, Department of State Service (DSS) Lawal Daura with immediate effect, following the unauthorized invasion of the premises of the National Assembly.
