Trump warns countries against business Iran

Heavier U.S. sanctions, aimed at Iran's oil sector, are due in November.

"The chilling effect of these sanctions has already taken its toll on the Iranian economy, so the sky will not fall at midnight tonight", he told The National.

United States officials insisted the American government stands with the people of Iran and supports many of their complaints against their own government. He dismissed a United States call for talks, saying "we are always in favour of diplomacy and talks..."

Brussels says protecting businesses based there is necessary because the sanctions have an "unlawful" reach beyond USA borders.

Donald Trump issued a statement on Monday, saying "the Iranian regime faces a choice: either change its threatening, destabilizing behavior and reintegrate with the global economy, or continue down a path of economic isolation".

But most Iranians have yet to see major economic improvement as a result of the deal, and the prospect that Washington would re-impose sanctions helped drive a collapse in the value of Iran's currency this year, raising the cost of imports.

Saudi Arabia and Israel, Iran's key regional rivals, are among the only countries to strongly support the reimposition of USA sanctions.

"Do you think this person (Trump) is a good and suitable person to negotiate with?"

"They want to launch psychological warfare against the Iranian nation", Mr Rouhani said. "Negotiations with sanctions doesn't make sense".

Iranians are already seeing the effects of the sanctions, with Iran´s rial currency losing around half its value since Trump announced the USA would withdraw from the 2015 nuclear accord.

Iran facing tough new sanctions reality
Protests broke out on Sunday for a sixth night in Iranian cities, including Kazeroon in the south. The first round of financial sanctions should return Monday.

They said that Americans stand with the Iranian people in their demands in recent protests, mainly against how the Iranian regime is taking money from the country to fund militias and wars overseas.

The so-called snapback sanctions target Iranian purchases of USA dollars, metals trading, coal, industrial software and its auto sector.

The European Union´s diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini said the bloc, as well as Britain, France and Germany, deeply regretted Washington´s move.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Monday he remains open to forging a new nuclear deal with Iran, as he confirmed Washington will go ahead with re-imposing sanctions against Tehran.

The President described them as the most "biting" ever imposed and warned other nations against trading with Iran in violation of the sanction.

Many large European firms are leaving Iran for fear of U.S. penalties, and Mr Trump warned of "severe consequences" against firms and individuals that continued to do business with Iran.

Hours before revived USA sanctions were due to kick in, White House national security adviser John Bolton said Iran should pay heed to Trump's willingness to negotiate. "That is not going to happen", said John Glaser of the Cato Institute.

Banker Bahaeddin Hashemi predicted the new policies would take at least a month to show their effects.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the renewed sanctions as "an important moment for Israel, for the U.S., for the region, for the whole world".

"Most of the companies have already made up their mind, whether it's the German Siemens, the French carmaker PSA, the Danish Maersk - all these companies that have said they don't want to risk losing access to the United States market, they don't want to risk losing access to the financing in dollars by USA banks, and also they don't want to lose their U.S. shareholders".
