West Nile Virus found in mosquitoes in Perth County traps

West Nile virus is a disease that is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito.

The first West Nile virus-related death of the year in Dallas County has been reported, the county health department confirmed to WFAA on Tuesday.

A mosquito trap in Drumbo tested positive for the virus during routine surveillance.

The product used will be a mosquito pesticide called Zenivex E20, which kills adult mosquitoes, but is not harmful to people and pets. In North America, that means that mosquito season - extending from the late spring through the fall - is West Nile season.

They are most active at dawn and dusk and will bite humans as well as other mammals and birds. This follows last week's positive test result in Woodstock.
