Putin pressed Trump for talks on arms control report

The White House said Tuesday that a letter from President Donald Trump to Russian President Vladimir Putin was meant to introduce Kentucky Republican Sen.

Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin's press secretary, confirmed that a missive had been received "through diplomatic channels", and will soon be delivered to the president's administration.

"I was honored to deliver a letter from President Trump to President Vladimir Putin's administration", the senator from Kentucky wrote on Twitter.

Paul's trip to Russia comes just weeks after Republican lawmakers traveled to Moscow for meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, including members of the Russian Parliament.

There has been no indication that a Putin-Paul meeting will take place.

Putin has denied that Russian Federation tried to influence the 2016 presidential election after the USA intelligence community concluded Russian Federation interfered through cyber attacks and social media in a bid to boost Trump's candidacy.

US President Donald Trump and the key members of his team have been repeatedly rejecting all the accusations concerning collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

The Trump administration has prepared an eight-page draft of an executive order that would allow the White House to sanction non-United States citizens for meddling in USA elections.

Paul remained supportive of Trump following the US President's performance during a news conference with Putin in July.

The tweet set off a flurry of speculation, given the controversy sparked by a Trump-Putin summit in Helsinki last month. On the Senate floor, Paul objected to a resolution expressing support for the intelligence community, as well as special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, calling it a sign of "Trump derangement syndrome".

The president later corrected some of his remarks, saying he misspoke. Trump's top intelligence official, Dan Coates, has said he is still in the dark about what Trump discussed with Putin in their tête-à-tête in Finland. A reported text of the draft bill published on Wednesday sent Russia's rouble to lows against the dollar last seen in April.
