South Sudan warring parties to sign final peace deal on Sunday

Sudan's Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed says the final peace agreement will be signed August 5.

South Sudan opposition parties of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and other factions have refused to sign the deal over power-sharing disputes at the state level.

The initial agreement stipulated that South Sudan President Salva Kiir will continue his post during the transitional period, while the opposition leader Riek Machar will assume the position of first vice president.

The war erupted following a power wrangle between President Kiir and his former deputy Dr Machar.

"We, however, remain committed to the strategic partnership between our country and theirs and we will not give up", Raila said on his Twitter page.

Mr Kiir said on Friday he was more confident that the current deal would work because it had not been "forced on us" unlike previously.

The power-sharing deal lays out a plan for a 35-minister transitional government including 20 Kiir allies and nine backers of Machar, along with representatives of other rebel factions. The Parliament will have 550 members, 332 from Kiir's group and 128 from Machar's group.

Trump admits son met with Russian to get information on opponent
Trump's days of private anger spilled out into public with the Twitter outburst, which comes at a perilous time for the president. He has also in recent weeks increased the number of times he has criticized Mueller personally.

The rival groups have already agreed on a permanent ceasefire and withdrawing of their forces from civilian areas.

Sudan helped broker the agreement.

A 2015 peace agreement was shattered when the warring parties renewed fighting in July 2016 in the capital, forcing rebel leader Riek Machar to flee into exile.

"They need security, they need vehicles, they need houses. five vice presidents, this is a very big responsibility to manage", he said. "So there are so many things need to be done".

But Bashir said with South Sudan expected to resume oil production, Juba would raise enough funds not only for the huge administration costs but also reconstruction of the broken road infrastructure network.

The conflict has also been driven by ethnic divisions - Kiir and Machar come from Dinka and Nuer ethnic groups respectively.

"By signing this agreement the guns must keep silent", said Nicholas Haysom, special United Nations envoy to Sudan and South Sudan.
