Police said some monkeys jumped on a pile of bricks that collapsed and fell on the man

The police in India have declared a troop of monkeys wanted for stoning a man to death in the northern part of the country.

Circle officer Ramala Rajiv Pratap Singh said Dharampal was sleeping near a pile of bricks in Tikri village on Wednesday, when some monkeys jumped onto the bricks.

Such deadly attacks have been reported throughout India; according to experts, one particular species of monkeys, rogue monkeys, are to blame for the incidents.

Local police said the monkeys rained the bricks on Dharampal from the tree top after collecting them from a nearby dilapidated building.

Mr Singh's family have lodged a formal complaint with Indian police who have recorded the death as an accident.

Mr Singh was hit on the head and in the chest. "We have submitted a written complaint against the monkeys, but the police is terming it as an accident", he said.

After the man breathed his last, his family went to the local police station and demanded that an FIR be registered against the rogue monkeys. 'This will make us a laughing stock'. The report doesn't note whether the attack was witnessed by anyone, and even if it was it would be hard to identify the monkeys that were actually responsible.
