iPhone XS Max destroys Pixel 3 XL in speed test

Google has finally addressed one of the recently revealed multitasking issues that are plaguing early Pixel 3 buyers.

We reached out to Google regarding the charging speeds when using a third-party wireless charger and will update this article if we get a response. Belkin has a 10W Google-approved Qi charger on the way that will wirelessly charge the Pixel 3 at full speed.

The company further added that Google sets a limitation for third-party fast wireless chargers and they can only provide 5W for these two handsets. However on any other wireless charger, even fast chargers, the Pixel only charges at a limited 5W despite the display saying that the phone is "Charging rapidly".

Normally we would chalk this up to some kind of bug, but apparently Google told Android Police that this was on goal.

Google is working on a certification process for future wireless chargers to fast charge the Pixel 3 duo. We've asked Google why it is doing this and will update this article if we hear back, but it's hard to imagine a justification for this. That is unusual, since the phone charges at 5W on the charger and displays the same thing when connected to its included 18W wired charger. Everything else charged at the industry standard Qi 5W.

The pictures above were taken using the Camera app's Night Sight mode on the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 2 XL. That's not an excuse for limiting the charging speed, though. The features like the Live lens, Motion Autofocus, Top Shot, Photo Booth, Super Res Zoom, Night Sight, Group Selfies, and few more features are available only for supported devices like the Pixel 3 and 3 XL.

Unfortunately, this is the beginning of a new "standard" for fast wireless charging.
