Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades Launches This December

Despite the cuts to Final Fantasy XV's planned releases, Square Enix isn't turning its back on the game. Production for "Episode Ardyn" is ongoing, with a planned release for March 2019.

The Final Fantasy XV stream continued with additional announcements to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the game, including Final Fantasy XV: Comrades being released as a standalone game that does not require the main game to play, coming December 12, 2018.

Bottom line: Amid significant losses and the resignation of Luminous Productions studio head Hajime Tabata, the fate of Final Fantasy XV is all but sealed.

Following on from Square Enix's $33 million loss yesterday, the publisher has held a Final Fantasy XV livestream, essentially to announce that future DLCs are now cancelled. More info on that is here, but you can see the trailer for Episode Ardyn below. That is with the exception of Episode Ardyn, which will still release next year as a final send-off for the game.

In a surprising and drastic move, Square Enix have made a decision to can the production of more DLC for Final Fantasy XV and write off the costs of its production, as they look to point Luminous Productions toward creating new AAA games.

"In regards to my next endeavours and near future, I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV", Tabata wrote.

Finally, fans will be happy to hear that Final Fantasy XV will be getting a new cross-promotion event with Final Fantasy XIV Online dubbed "Adventurer From Another World".
