According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Saints fear that Bryant tore his Achilles during today's practice. He was carted off the practice field and taken to get an MRI.

In 16 games previous year for the Dallas Cowboys, Bryant had 69 catches for 838 yards and six touchdowns. And as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported shortly after the injury news, it seems the Saints may already be working on a contingency plan in the former of another wideout.

Bryant acknowledged the setback in a tweet on Friday afternoon, writing: "This is the ultimate test".

Bryant had just signed a one-year deal with the Saints this week after spending the past seven months as a free agent.

That said, Payton said he hasn't seen Bryant practice yet and "we'll see" if Bryant plays this weekend after that changes.

Bryant said multiple times during the offseason that he wanted to play for a contender, which made New Orleans an easy choice for him.

The Saints signed Dez Bryant earlier this week to bolster their receiving corps with a capable veteran, but Bryant's season may have ended Friday before it ever truly began in New Orleans.
