Russia's Mission to ISS May Launch on December 3 Report

The Soyuz MS-10 attempts to separates into its second stage about two minutes into its flight and immediately starts spinning out of control.

Russian officials believe the component was damaged during assembly.

Russian rockets have experienced an array of glitches in recent years, but the latest mishap was the first to be experienced by a manned Soyuz capsule since 1983, when a crew narrowly escaped before a launchpad explosion.

They warned that two other Soyuz rockets could be defective, and said additional checks have been introduced.

Sergei Krikalyov, a senior Roscosmos official, was quoted by state news agency Tass as saying the next manned launch had been planned for mid-December, but that Russian Federation was trying to bring the date forward so that the ISS is not briefly left without a crew.

The Soyuz rocket used to launch astronauts has three stages, or segments.

The findings of an official investigation into the incident were presented at a press conference on Thursday.

Ovchinin and Hague returned safely back to Earth in their capsule, and are likely get their chance to go to the space station in the spring, Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin has said.

WWE has faced wide condemnation for not cancelling the event, including pressure from multiple USA senators. John Oliver dedicated a segment to savaging WWE over the decision on his Last Week Tonight show.

The crew is set to include Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques, who was originally scheduled to fly to the station December 20 on a six-month mission.

The malfunction led to one of the four boosters on the first stage failing to detach correctly and colliding with a fuel tank of the second stage, which exploded.

Despite their dramatic descent and landing, both men were recovered unharmed, the space agencies said.

After investigating the incident, Russia's space agency, Roscosmos, determined that one of the rocket's boosters failed and remained stuck to the main rocket body instead of peeling off.

In the first official report on the cause of the October 11 accident, Roscosmos said a sensor that indicated the separation of the first two stages of the rocket malfunctioned.

Russian rockets are manufactured in Russia but the final assembly takes place at the Russia-leased Baikonur cosmodrome.

Russian Federation is the only country now able to send crew to the ISS, after Nasa's Space Shuttle programme ended in 2011.
