A five-year-old girl died on Monday afternoon after being pinned between two vehicles when she was being picked up from school

Police say a KIA vehicle was apparently left in gear without a driver outside St. Raphael Catholic School in North York Monday when it began to move, pinning a schoolgirl between it and another auto.

A mother had parked the Hyundai further up the street and got out to walk across the street towards the school, CTV Toronto's Austin Delaney reported.

The girl was subsequently rushed to the Hospital for Sick Children.

Officers say the unoccupied Kia SUV, which may have switched gears, pinned the girl against her father's Mercedes-Benz.

Miller said collision reconstruction investigators are gathering evidence and are going to do a full vehicle examination to determine if a mechanical failure occurred.

Police say the girl's father was with her at the time of the crash and went with her to hospital.
