Play ball! In the late 80s the younger Van Dyke became well-known for his work on the series Coach with Craig T Nelson and Bill Fagerbakkes
According to Variety, Jerry Van Dyke, Emmy-nominated actor and younger brother of Dick Van Dyke, died on Friday at age 86.
He passed away at a ranch in Hot Spring County, Ark., that he and his wife have owned for 35 years, USA Today reported.
Throughout his television career, Van Dyke gravitated towards projects that would go on to be short-lived, turning down a starring role in "Gilligan's Island" to work on "My Mother the auto", which has been regarded as one of the worst television shows of the era.
Van Dyke was born in Danville, Illinois and carried a decades-long career in television that started with a debut on the iconic Dick Van Dyke Show.

Van Dyke, who was the younger brother of actor Dick Van Dyke, was not keeping well after he met with an accident in 2015. He also had major roles on "Yes, Dear" and most recently, "The Middle".
"I was always known as Dick Van Dyke's brother and the guy that did My Mother the vehicle". His onscreen daughter Patricia Heaton marked Van Dyke's passing with a pair of heartfelt tweets.
