DJI Launches New Osmo Mobile Smartphone Stabilizer For $129
That changes today. The company has now launched a new Osmo Mobile smartphone stabilizer that costs $129.
Three-axis gimbal technology which will cancel out movement in three directions, so that your footage will remain steady even if your hand is shaking.
"With the introduction of these two stabilizers, DJI now offers gimbal technology to help unlock the creative storyteller in everyone no matter what camera they're using", said Paul Pan, Senior Product Manager at DJI.
The Ronin S is DJI's first 3-axis stabilizer for both mirrorless and DSLR cameras. DJI's SmoothTrack technology detects how you are moving the camera and compensates, so it becomes a smoother, more "cinematic" shot.

Users will also be able to connect the Ronin-S to their camera and use the gimbal's physical controls to change cameras settings such as ISO, shutter speed and the record video button. Also, a USB port that will enable you to charge your phone during use.

DJI has made gimbals for everything from smartphones to cinema cameras like the RED Epic, but the company has never produced a single-handed stabilization system - that is until now. The Ronin S has the same kind of form factor as a smartphone stabilizer - a pistol grip mounted directly below the camera - but it's created to accomodate DSLR and mirrorless cameras.
Availability in 2 frame sizes for either camera type. The Ronin S works with most camera lens combinations such as the Canon 5D, Panasonic GH, and Sony Alpha systems. It has a Push mode that lets you move the camera by hand, but also has a joystick to adjust it with the gimbal motors. There are dedicated camera and gimbal control buttons on the handle, with a joystick to adjust the framing manually, while a new Sport mode is meant to make faster movements more effective. The Osmo Mobile 2 not only makes it possible to record smooth handheld video with a phone, it supports landscape orientation (for traditional capture) and portrait, the format used by Snapchat and Instagram Stories.
Alternatively, the DJI Ronin-S offers simple shooting modes including panorama, hyperlapse, and Track and CamAnchor, which allows you to designate specific camera positions and switch between them on demand.
The Osmo Mobile 2 will be going up for pre-order with Apple exclusively on January 23, before becoming available through store.dji.com in early February.
The DJI Ronin-S release date will be available in the next few months through DJI's online store as well as it retail partners (i.e. Amazon and the Apple Store). It's priced at $129USD but DJI has not announced worldwide pricing as yet. Their main booth is located in the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall, Level 2, booth #26002.
