Hours before USCIS announced it had resumed receiving DACA renewals, Trump blamed Democrats for the stalled immigration negotiations over the vulgar comments controversy.

"I thought the guy I saw on Tuesday was the guy I play golf with", Graham said to reporters on Capitol Hill.

Lindsey Graham of SC said Trump had drastically changed his tune on a compromise immigration bill just before the Thursday meeting.

"Don't give my number out", Graham said, "but call me".

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., asked her specifically if she heard the vulgarity or a "substantially similar word" to describe certain countries. "DACA is not dead", she said.

Lawmakers hope to reach an immigration deal before January 19, when Congress must pass a funding bill or the government will shut down. "This is the time but, day by day, they are blowing the one great opportunity they have".

"The president hasn't said he didn't use strong language", press secretary Sarah Sanders said. This isn't going to solve everything at once, but it does solve a very important piece.

If a temporary "continuing resolution" to keep the government operating results, it would be the fourth such measure since the 2018 federal fiscal year began on October 1, a sign of Washington's serious struggles to pass spending legislation.

The contours of a bipartisan compromise on immigration are clear - but that won't happen if the president, elected in part because of his supposed deal-making prowess, continues to roil the waters with racist rants. Trump has denied using that language.

A CBS News poll released Sunday found that 70 percent of Americans are in favor of DACA and even among Trump's supporters, a slim majority also support the program.

The president doubled down on his position that any new immigration deal should get rid of lottery-based visas, to focus on merit-based entry into the country. "Durbin blew DACA and is hurting our Military".

The Department of Homeland Security says it will once again accept renewal requests from recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in response to a court order.

Trump said in September he was terminating the DACA program, begun by his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama, effective in March. Members of Congress from both parties are trying to strike a deal that Trump would support to extend that protection.

That, by itself, is a sad commentary on the state of politics in this country. "I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed". Dick Durbin, who was at the White House meeting, said Friday that the President "said these hate-filled things and he said them repeatedly". The White House said there are no tapes. Democrats have said they want a spending bill that protects the Dreamers, mostly Hispanic young adults. One of the president's tweets the judge noted: "Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military?"

Durbin said after the Oval Office meeting that Trump's words to the senators were "vile, hate-filled and clearly racial in their content".

The conservative House Freedom Caucus was to meet late on Tuesday and its head, Representative Mark Meadows, told reporters he did not know if a "compelling" case had been made for another temporary spending bill that would fail to bring the big increases in defense spending his group is seeking.

"It made me sad", Lewis said. Trump wrote, "I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians".

Trump took particular issue with the idea that people who'd fled to the USA after disasters hit their homes in places such as El Salvador, Guatemala and Haiti would be allowed to stay as part of the deal, according to the people briefed on the conversation.

The Senate approach, Lujan Grisham said, would reduce the parents of Dreamers to "second-class citizens" because they would receive temporary protections and no pathway to citizenship, as well as other problems.

"He said, 'Put me down for wanting more Europeans to come to this country. Why did Chuck Schumer and all of his colleagues come and beg Donald Trump for money?"
