Beginning in 1969, White played in parts of 10 seasons with the Celtics, averaging 18.4 points, 5.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game before being traded to the Golden State Warriors in 1979.
"We are terribly saddened by the passing of the great Jo Jo White", the Celtics said in a statement announcing White's passing. He retired in 1981, and was selected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. "He was a champion and a gentleman".
White, as noted in the tweet above, was the MVP of the 1976 NBA Finals, when the Celtics defeated the Phoenix Suns in six games.
As they are now comprised, the Celtics have developed incredible team chemistry and fought their way to the second highest win total in the National Basketball Association.
