Geoff Johns officially welcomes IT producer Walter Hamada, who was appointed by Warner Bros.to oversee production for all their DC Comics-based movies, not just the DCEU. Previously Hamada has been in charge of the New Line division of WB for over a decade since 2007 and is responsible for films including The Gallows as well as The Conjuring. In December, the studio chose to replace Jon Berg and Geoff Johns as the heads of the DC movies. Berg is now a partner at Vertigo, the production shingle run by producer Roy Lee. Hamada is still expected to work closely with Johns, who will reportedly still have creative input. Unfortunately while "Wonder Woman" was one of the biggest and most well reviewed movies of the year, DC got hammered for "Justice League", which was a critical and commercial disappointment, especially when compared to Marvel's similar release of "The Avengers" several years ago.

The fallout from 'Justice League's tepid release continues with Warner Bros. finding a new executive to head up DC's films...

Aside from overseeing DC Films, Hamada is also tasked to oversee the comic book movies that Warner Bros. produces outside the DC canon.

Toby Emmerich, the studio's president and chief content officer, made the announcement Thursday.

"Walter is creative, resourceful, and committed to excellence, and will bring those qualities to his oversight of our superhero films", said Emmerich in a statement.

Warner Bros. has tapped a new man to lead its slate of comic book movies.

Warners finds itself at a crossroads as to where it should spend its development energies next, as the coming year will only bring one DC movie to theaters: Aquaman, directed by Conjuring helmer James Wan and set to open December 21. She will continue in that role, as will DC Entertainment chief Diane Nelson.

Hamada is part of the duo known as "Team Genre" within the New Line corridors. He began his career at TriStar and later became vice president of production at Columbia Pictures.
