City blood stocks are desperate
In North Carolina alone, 23 blood drives were cancelled or closed early due to last week's winter storm, with almost 600 uncollected donations.
A spokesman for the NHS Blood and Transplant service said: "We urgently need donations after the December bad weather and our stocks are low". The Red Cross says that means thousands of possible donations were not collected.
OBI is urging donors to give blood at the donor centers or mobile blood drives.
In New York, 10 blood drives were forced to cancel due to the winter storm, causing 235 donations to go uncollected.

"Even temporary disruptions to blood and platelet donations can diminish the availability for hospital patients", said Christy Peters, external communications manager of the local Red Cross Blood Services Region.
