Elected officials and political hopefuls were among those attending the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Each speaker focused on the impact Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had on their lives.

"It's a bunch of different races coming together to show that we can be one city", marcher Nikah Sutton-Adams said.

"We just want to come celebrate the parade, I don't care how cold it is". He said volunteering in the community - not just on the holiday, but throughout the year - can honor King's dream.

"Talking to each other, having more conversations, talking about values things that we can do, things that Dr. King would like for us to do", community activist Eddie McAllister said.

King famously fought for African-Americans' right to vote, which were formally protected by the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

For Rev Netters, Dr. King was way more than a friend. We have this opportunity to help those who are less fortunate and it's our duty to make sure that everyone has access to healthy nutritious meals no matter if you're a child or the elderly so I love getting out and helping.

"It's good so everybody and come together, kind of stand for someone as one", she said.
