United Kingdom auto maker Jaguar Land Rover is to open a software engineering centre in Shannon, Co Clare which will create 150 jobs.

The announcement has been welcomed by Shannon Chamber, who say it provides an opportunity for future employment for graduates of third level institutions in the region.

Executive Director of Product Engineering, Nick Rogers added, "Technical innovation lies at the heart of Jaguar Land Rover and our innovation is continuous".

According to "The Sunday Times", the UK-based luxury auto maker plans to create 150 jobs at the site, where it will research new technologies related to battery-powered cars and automated driving.

"The heart of our business will always be in the UK".

"Attracting investment into regional locations is a key focus for IDA Ireland and this project shows how the particular strengths of regional locations can be harnessed to attract investments".
