As such - and especially with Saturday afternoon's playoff game featuring one of the Raiders' division rivals, the Chiefs - fans on social media and at Arrowhead Stadium were quick to poke fun at the situation, as well as Gruden's reported 10-year deal and worth an estimated $100 million.
The news broke just hours after Gruden finished announcing the Kansas City and Tennessee wild-card game on Saturday.
"Well thank you", demurred Gruden, who is set to be introduced as the Raiders' head coach on Monday.

In all, Gruden has compiled a 95-and-81 record during his first run as the Raiders and Bucs coach from 1998-2008.
The 54-year-old coached the Raiders between 1998 and 2001, before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His Buccaneers beat the Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl XXXVII.
The Raiders fired Del Rio last week after the conclusion of a 6-10 season. The defense struggled mightily before a late-season switch from fired coordinator Ken Norton Jr.to play-caller John Pagano. He came back in 2004 and had a 30-34 record in four seasons, leading Washington to two playoff berths. Jon Gruden was hired in 2009 to serve as a commentator on ESPN's "Monday Night Football". He waited so long to return to coaching and drove demand so high that he was given an unprecedented contract. For ESPN, Gruden was present for the 2010 Rose Bowl and 2010 BCS National Championship game for ESPN radio.
