Loved Ones Mourn Philly Fire Lieutenant Who Died in North Philly Blaze

- Officials say two people have died - including fire Lt. Matt LeTourneau - following a two-alarm fire in North Philadelphia. Crews arrived to the scene along the 2200 block of North Colorado Street around 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said a person inside the home died in the blaze.

Two firefighters were injured and taken to the hospital where they were treated and released. There was no immediate word on what caused the blaze. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was declared dead around 11 a.m. ET.

Fire officials say an interior structure collapse trapped 42-year-old Lt. LeTourneau, an 11-year veteran of the force.

The city's Red Paw Emergency Relief Team posted an image of firefighters battling the blaze on Twitter. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Officials located and arrested the two men who are facing a number of charges including Animal Cruelty and Larceny. According to the Associated Press , all the chickens were allegedly killed by Ulrich's bare hands.

In 2010 he was awarded a unit citation and he received a commendation for his service during the World Meeting of Families in 2015.

LeTourneau graduated in 1993 from Cardinal O'Hara High School and earned an Associate's degree in fire science from Delaware County Community College. He lived in Springfield and is survived by his mother, other relatives and friends.
