In a December 14 interview with ABC's Peter Travers, the Oscar victor said: "You know, there's a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?"
One hopes-hopes-that Damon has learned something from this, even if that lesson is the one that comes so effortlessly to most of us: "Shut up if you don't know anything".
"I really wish I'd listened a lot more before I weighed in on this", Damon said on the Today Show on Tuesday. During his last appearance on the Today Show, Matt defended the rights of men who hadn't been accused of crimes. He continued to say he didn't "want to further anybody's pain with anything that I do or say".
Cher said Matt Damon was a "faux ally", and that he was all about servicing his ego rather than defending the "oppressed and disenfranchised". Damon said. "Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn't be conflated, right?"
Just weeks after the "Downsizing" actor found himself in hot water over his comments about what's come to be known as the #MeToo movement, Damon says he's going to recuse himself from the conversation for a while.
"All of that behavior needs to be confronted, but there is a continuum and on this end of the continuum where you have rape and child molestation or whatever, you know, that's prison".

Now, amid the Time's Up movement, which helps provide legal aid for victims of sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace, it seems the actor has taken the backlash into deep consideration.
The wave of misconduct allegations against powerful men in Hollywood hit home with Damon, who, in October, was of pressuring the New York Times in 2004 to kill a story alleging sexual abuse against Weinstein.
