Natalie Portman calls out all-male director lineup on Golden Globes stage

Announcing the nominees for Best Director alongside Ron Howard, Portman delivered a little bit of truth-a reminder that men still dominate in award shows' biggest categories. Before reading out the names she quipped, "And now, here are the all male nominees". She's widely considered among the top candidates for a directing Oscar, and her film won the Globe for best film musical or comedy.

In his speech, del Toro specifically called out the women who worked on The Shape of Water with him, including Golden Globe nominees Octavia Spencer and Sally Hawkins.

Portman also shared a video explaining why she's wearing black.

Portman was exactly right, of course - the five filmmakers up for the award were Guillermo del Toro, Martin McDonagh, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, and Steven Spielberg.

Immediately after Natalie's bold comment, stars like Jane The Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez, 33, and How To Get Away With Murder's Matt McGorry, tweeted their praise for Natalie.
