Infused with fresh belief in front of a passionate Welsh crowd, Newport pressed for a victor, and with a minute to go on-loan substitute McCoulsky rose highest at a corner to head in the decisive goal and send the stadium into raptures.

Leeds United failed to make it past the FA Cup third round, being knocked out by League Two Newport this afternoon.

Speaking after substitute Shawn McCoulsky headed an 89th-minute victor at a packed Rodney Parade, Flynn said: "This is much better, beating Championship teams like Leeds. They know what the FA Cup means and I know it".

A Leeds side showing nine changes from their previous game led thanks to Gaetano Berardi's deflected strike in the 10th minute.

Flynn, a boyhood Liverpool fan, admitted afterwards that playing Jurgen Klopp's side in front of the Kop would be his ideal tie and praised his team for their performance in beating a team ranked 53 places higher in the football league.

"The goal was unfortunate, but we had chances and kept going". The nearest they came to scoring was in the first half when Jimmy Abdou's shot hit the bar.
