Pyongyang plans to send music band to Winter Olympics in South Korea

South Korea will demand answers from the North which has avoided concrete answers to direct requests, just weeks ahead of the world's best winter sport athletes descending on the region.

140 member band will be performing in Gangneung and SeoulNorth Korea has agreed to send the Samjiyon Band, an orchestra with more than 140 members, to South Korea to perform in Seoul and in Gangneung, a city in Gangwon Province, during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Heavily guarded talks will be held at Tongilgak, a North Korean building in the truce village of Panmunjom.

The Rodong Sinmun article stressed the importance of "easing the acute military tension" between the North and the South, and of "creating a peaceful environment" on the Korean Peninsula to produce a "climate favorable for national reconciliation and reunification".

An ex girlfriend of Kim's will also be in attendance, as the leader of the all-female Moranbong Bandset up by Kim.

Separately, the International Olympic Committee has proposed a meeting on January 20 at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, involving the rival Koreas to discuss North Korea's participation in Pyeongchang.

Monday's meeting between the North and South will reportedly include talks of the North's art troupe heading to the Olympics.
