Host Seth Meyers took the stage and began by greeting the crowd as "Ladies and remaining gentlemen".

In the television categories, programs centered on women's lives came away the big winners: "The Handmaid's Tale" won best television series drama, "Big Little Lies" won best limited series or made for television movie and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" won best television series comedy or musical.
"Considering what has been going on this year with powerful men and their bad behaviour in Hollywood, a lot of people thought it would be more appropriate for a woman to host these awards and they may be right", he said.
"I think it's time to address the elephant not in the room - Harvey Weinstein isn't here tonight because, well, I've heard rumors that he's insane and hard to work with", Meyers said. "'Hmm, well where is it?' And they said, 'It's at a hotel, ' and long story short, I'm you're host tonight".
"Hey, remember when he was the guy making trouble with North Korea? Simpler times (referring to Rogen's movie The Interview)".

Doing a bit with comedian Billy Eichner, he set him up with a description of Call Me By Your Name as a "gay coming-of-age film", to which Eichner replied, "Said Kevin Spacey, 'You lost me at of age'". Oh was that too mean?
