The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh accept the resignation of Power and Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, accused by the opposition of illegally bagging sand mining contracts.
In a statement here today, senior SAD leader and MP Balwinder Singh Bhundar said Rana Gurjit Singhs resignation had also proved that the entire process of allocation of sand mines was "flawed".
Rana's son Inder Partap Singh is alleged to have raised funds from overseas without the mandatory approval from the Reserve Bank of India. However, it is not clear whether Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh has accepted the resignation or not.
Both Punjab leaders are scheduled to meet Rahul on Thursday.

The ED had, about 10 days ago, issued summons to the minister's son Rana Inder Partap Singh in connection with raising funds amounting to $18 million (over Rs 100 crore) overseas by floating global depository receipts for a family-owned company, Rana Sugars Limited, allegedly without the mandatory approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). But a recent controversy about minister's ex-employee Amit Bahadur's firm, Rajbir Enterprises, allegedly getting an amount of Rs 5 crore from irrigation scam accused Gurinder Singh seems to have added to the minister's troubles.
