"They don't want to play for him".

ESPN published an article Sunday morning wherein LaVar Ball had some unflattering things to say about Lakers coach Luke Walton from thousands of miles away.

Ball, the outspoken father of Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball, told ESPN's Jeff Goodman that Walton has lost control of the team and players "don't want to play for him".

"You can see they're not playing for Luke no more. Printing an article where the father of an National Basketball Association player has an opinion that is printed as anything like legitimate erodes trust that we've built with ESPN and our coaches are upset".

Playing in his second game back after missing six with a shoulder injury, Lonzo Ball amassed 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Los Angeles.

Carlisle said. "That's what I'm saying".

He added, after a follow-up question: "My job is to play basketball".

LaVar essentially ran former Chino Hills High School head coach Stephan Gilling out of town with constant nagging and criticism about how he was running the team and coaching the Ball brothers.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka attended Sunday's shoot around but declined to speak to reporters.

Ball continued with his analysis that Walton isn't the right guy for the job. "We talk all the time. They're 100 percent behind and supporting what we're doing".

Walton denied the elder Ball's claim that he has lost the team and said he has received support from his coaching peers around the league.

Walton said the comments didn't concern him, as long as they didn't adversely affect his player. Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, who's also the head of the coaches association, was less than pleased.

Carlisle called the ESPN article "a disgrace".

"Even if you bring in a LeBron or a [Paul] George, he can't coach them guys", he said.

"I'm saying they should look at their sources and do a better job of determining if their sources have any merit or any validity or are they just blow-hard loud mouths", he said.

"That's how we're going to win games", Ball said.

Pelinka and Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson met with LaVar Ball on November 29, not long after he told a reporter the Lakers coaches were too soft on his son.
