College basketball official Ted Valentine is mulling retirement after he created controversy by turning his back on Joel Berry II while the North Carolina guard protested a call during Wednesday's loss to Florida State.

Berry tried to explain to Valentine that the foul had been missed, but Valentine turned his back on the player and folded his arms as Berry attempted to hand him the basketball. UNC released a statement Thursday saying it regularly discusses officiating issues with the league, but wouldn't go into any specifics about Wednesday's hubbub.

And while social media went ablaze with criticism for Valentine in that moment, there was no telling how far this incident would carry.

The Hall of Fame coach said he believes that Berry was well within his rights to approach Valentine and talk to him under the circumstances, especially since he did it calmly, in a way that doesn't show up the official. It didn't look good; I don't think the intention was there for it to look as bad as it did look.

China opened its first offshore naval base previous year in Djibouti, a small French and Arabic speaking country on the Horn of Africa.

According to Valentine, as a result of the incident and the attention it drew, the Big Ten removed him from two games he was assigned to work over the weekend - Friday's contest between Wisconsin and Rutgers, and Sunday's game between Ohio State and Michigan State.

"I'm thinking about retiring", Valentine said in an interview with The Athletic. "I've had enough of people blowing up stuff". Williams said. "I don't think anything is wrong with it and 99 percent of the time I think the officials handle it well and they would probably rather that happen instead of me calling them a dumb dumb from 40 feet away". He is well-respected by coaches and has worked 28 NCAA tournaments, 10 Final Fours and four national championship games. "Everybody reacted to what Jay Bilas wrote on Twitter". He made a comment about something and he didn't see the whole thing. "First you're guilty, then you have to prove yourself innocent". I told Joel, just go over and say 'Mr.

But the very best referees are typically the ones who make everyone else forget they're even there. Do I want to go back?
