The comments late on Friday came after the U.S. called an emergency meeting at the UN Security Council to address the deadly demonstrations that began in late December in Iran.

"The president and vice president of the United States, in their numerous absurd tweets, incited Iranians to engage in disruptive acts", said Khoshroo in the letter also sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. "The people of Iran are crying out for freedom", she said.

"The real reason for convening today is not protect human rights or promote the interests of the Iranian people, but rather a veiled attempt to continue to undermine the Iranian nuclear agreement".

On Dec. 28, thousands of people took to the streets in Iran's northeastern cities of Mashhad and Kashmar to protest rising inflation, unemployment and perceived government mismanagement.

The demonstrations were the most significant anti-government reaction since 2009 protests against alleged election irregularities.

"The United States is abusing the platform of the Security Council", said Russian Ambassador Nebenzia.

"It is unfortunate that despite the resistance on the part of some of its members, this council has allowed itself to be abused by the current United States administration in holding a meeting on an issue that falls outside the scope of its mandate", noted Khoshroo.

It has also called on the United Nations to condemn the "US interference" in Iran's domestic affairs and considered the holding of a Security Council session to discuss the situation in the Persian State as "not constructive".

"It is unfortunate that despite the resistance on the part of some of its members, this council has allowed itself to be abused by the current USA administration in holding a meeting on an issue that falls outside the scope of its mandate", said Khoshroo.

On that front, nothing will change. "I've learned that over the years and I think I'm in the best shape I have ever been". I'm also getting the right amount of sleep. "I'm quite surprised that that is shocking".

Legendary astronaut John Young dies at 87
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Saturday said, "We're saddened by the loss of astronaut John Young". When asked what moment in his career was most memorable at his retirement from NASA in 2004, he replied, "I liked them all".

They added that "the government's instruction to the Revolutionary Guard to hit hard against the protesters, and the judiciary's threats of harsh punishment, are unacceptable".

US Ambassador Nikki Haley - whose country sought the talks - has argued that the week of demonstrations - against the government and now for it - could escalate into full-blown conflict, drawing a comparison with Syria. The Iranian regime is now on notice. "And we know the truth", Haley said.

United Kingdom ambassador Matthew Ryctoft disputed the categorization, however, saying "No one is forcing Iran onto our agenda", and maintaining that Article 34 of the council's charter empowers the council to investigate disputes that may lead to worldwide conflict.

British Ambassador Matthew Rycroft concurred with Haley.

Durting the meeting, three members France, Russia and China of the permanent five, joined Iran in asserting that this 15-membered body was not an appropriate forum to discuss the current situation in Iran as it does not pose any threat to global peace and security.

Up to 42,000 people have taken part in the protests.

Iranian authorities have declared the unrest over, and held three days of large pro-government rallies across the country between Wednesday and Friday.

US President Donald Trump has fiercely opposed the deal, but the other signatories remain firmly behind it.
