Sony revamps mid-range w/ Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra, adds new fingerprint sensor, metal design
A report by Evan Blass from VentureBeat, tips that Sony's upcoming low and mid-range smartphone series might be announced at next week's CES 2018 in Las Vegas or at next month's Mobile World Congress. Earlier this week, 3D renders appeared of the XA2, XA2 Ultra, and L2. As you may have guessed, these are successors to the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs that were unveiled at the MWC 2017, but the Xperia XZ1 Plus is a completely new name, though not odd in the smartphone world. Unlike last year's XA1, Sony's sequel packs a 5.2-inch display running at 1080p - a much-needed bump in resolution that hopefully won't affect the bottom line too much.
As per the leaked info, the Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium is obviously the most premium model of the trio.
As reported by Venture Beat, these devices will make a transition from MediaTek chipsets to Qualcomm Snapdragon 630s. In addition, the Xperia XA2 has been listed with a 21-megapixel rear camera sensor that seems capable of capturing 4k videos. The device will be equipped with 3 or 4 GB of RAM and storage capacity 32 or 64 GB, and Android OS at the factory will update to version 8 Oreo.

The Xperia XA2 will sport a newer 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, while the Xperia XA2 Ultra is expected to borrow the 6-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display from its predecessor. There is also a 7-megapixel sensor in the front. The images above have the fingerprint sensor mounted on the power button itself, which is a usual for Sony flagships, but also something that's not so welcomed in the US.
The Xperia L2 is the third new phone Sony unveiled on Monday. Just like the Xperia XZ1 Premium, the Xperia XZ1 Plus is said to be driven by a Snapdragon 845 processor as well.
What's more, the Xperia XZ1 Premium is reportedly fitted with a 12MP dual rear camera setup as well as a 13MP selfie camera, and a fingerprint scanner on the back.
