President Trump Signs Order Disbanding Voter Fraud Commission

The commission, formally called the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, has been bedeviled by internal dissension, threats of litigation and the refusal of some states to provide information.

Mr. Trump had set up the commission, chaired by Vice President Mike Pence, to investigate his postelection claims that voter fraud is a massive problem that cut into his 2016 vote margins.

"Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to dissolve the Commission, and have asked the Department of Homeland Security to review these issues and determine next courses of action".

Trump, in his bombast, has suggested that enough noncitizens voted in states like California that would have given him the popular vote win - instead of just the comfortable Electoral College win - in the 2016 presidential election. The White House maintains there is substantial evidence of voter fraud, although past studies have found it to be exceptionally rare. System is rigged, must go to Voter I.D. "This is why I, and so many other Secretaries of State refused to legitimize this sham commission by refusing to comply with its unprecedented request for private voter data".

"The fact that the commission encountered so many lawsuits and such resistance illustrates just how the partisan left is determined to obstruct the gaining of information about the extent of voter fraud", Kobach said. "Push hard for Voter Identification!"

Dunlap says that moving the inquiry to DHS is "utterly alarming".

The Lawyer's Committee brought one of the lawsuits against the commission a year ago.

Trump never proved any of his claims about widespread voter fraud.

Microsoft has also released updates for Windows 10 , 8.1 and 7 operating systems to address the security vulnerabilities. The processors often handle data, like a password or encryption key, that is supposed to be kept from other apps.

Kristen Clarke, president of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a nonprofit advocacy group, also welcomed the news, calling the commission "a vehicle launched for the sole objective of laying the groundwork to promote voter suppression policies on a national scale". "While this chapter is now closed, I am committed to remaining vigilant on the front of election integrity and the transparent, free, and fair conduct of elections", Dunlap said.

"The commission's entire goal was to legitimize voter suppression", Vanita Gupta, president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and former head of the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division, told the Times.

Kobach, who is the secretary of state for Kansas, agreed.

The most recent charges come on the heels of Trump's announcement late Wednesday that he is disbanding the commission for which Kobach had served as vice chairman.

The list of activists and organizations that challenged the commission is lengthy, including numerous nation's most prominent civil rights groups and good-government nonprofits.

Kobach told the Topeka Capital-Journal last week that although the commission's work had been delayed because of the lawsuits, it would meet in January.

The ACLU was one group that sued over the commission.
