Arsenal have launched an enquiry for Jonny Evans but are yet to submit a bid to West Brom

Arsenal have reignited their interest in West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans after reportedly enquiring about the former Manchester United man.

Arsenal are willing to pay £25m for Jonny Evans and "could also offer right back Mathieu Debuchy as part of the package", according to the Daily Telegraph. The BBC claim Arsene Wenger is ready to ask for permission to make a £25 million move for the Northern Ireland star, while City are keen to bring in cover for injury-hit captain Vincent Kompany.

West Brom are thought to want around £25 million for Evans, who has 18 months left on his existing contract at the Hawthorns and indicated to the Midlands club, now second bottom of the Premier League, that he would be unwilling to sign a new deal.

The 29-year-old is a defender with a wealth of Champions League experience from his long spell at Old Trafford.

Both City and Arsenal were said to have bid for the player during the summer.

West Brom are battling to survive in the Premier League and boss Alan Pardew will not doubt mull whether selling Evans is the best course to take, even if it provides money to invest elsewhere in his side.

The Telegraph reports that Everton are "among a number of other [Evans] suitors", but adds that there's a recognition they can not compete with Arsenal or Manchester City for the 30-year-old, who "wants European football and the chance to compete at the top again'". Evans is thought to favour a move back to the north west of England, where his family are based. "We know that and he knows that, we have to be intelligent and straightforward dealing with it".
