Israel army ordered to shoot as Palestinians plan protest at Gaza border

Citing security concerns, the Israeli military enforces a "no go" zone for Palestinians on land in Gaza adjacent to Israel's border fence.

- The Israeli military says it has caught three Palestinians from Gaza who sneaked into Israel carrying grenades. It says it is investigating the incident.

Israeli tanks hit two Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday after activists set fire to the base of the security fence on the volatile frontier, the army said. They tried to set fire to the engineering equipment being used to construct a barrier created to counter efforts by terror groups to tunnel into Israel.

Wednesday's shelling comes only two days before planned Palestinian demonstrations in which Gazans plan to converge on the Gaza-Israel border.

The Hamas terror group has organized the protest planned for Friday, which are being held under the banner of "March of Return".

The rallies in question are dubbed the "Great March of Return" and will take place on Land Day, an annual commemoration of the murder of six unarmed Arab citizens by Israeli forces during demonstrations over land confiscations in 1976. The week-long Jewish holiday of Passover, when Israel heightens security, also begins on Friday.

The protests will continue for six weeks until May 15, the day after the anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel, which Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, or catastrophe. In their body search the IDF force found barbed wire cutters and a knife.
