Cuomo Declares State Of Emergency In 4 Counties As Storm Cleanup Begins

In Newburgh, N.Y., located about 60 miles north of Manhattan, an 11-year-old girl died when a tree fell on a auto she was in, the Mid-Hudson Valley Patch reported. A few hours later New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo would declare a state of emergency in several counties and deployed the New York National Guard.

This evening at approximately 4:15 p.m., the City of Newburgh Police Department to assist the Newburgh Fire Department who had been dispatched to 23 Robinson Ave for a report of a tree down onto a vehicle.

It could take days to fully restore power in Newburgh after a tornado slammed the city during Tuesday's powerful and deadly weather, the mayor says. While municipal and utility crews worked to clear roadways, homeowners all over the region were faced with the task of removing trees that had fallen on lawns, cars and, in some cases, houses. That was an improvement from the roughly 75,000 who were out early Wednesday.

The accident happened just after 4 p.m.
