The Peel Regional Police Department tweeted, "2 suspects attended the scene, detonated an Improvised Explosive Device within the restaurant".
Police released photos of the suspects shortly after the explosion.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto has opened a helpline in view of the explosion at an Indian restaurant in Mississauga for anyone needing assistance. Three loud bangs were heard at the moment of the explosions, according to the witness. Peel Police Chief Jennifer Evans told reporters on Friday morning that there was no indication it was a terrorist attack or a hate crime but that officials were not ruling anything out. Both men had their faces covered.
Two parties, including a birthday celebration, were going on at the restaurant at the time of the blast, Evans said.

Two men are suspected of setting off an explosive device in the restaurant, with authorities asking for information about their identities and whereabouts.
The second suspect is fair-skinned, five-foot-nine to five-foot-ten, with a thin build, and was wearing faded blue jeans, and a dark zipped hoodie.
Bertram said there were several family gatherings in the restaurant at the time, involving people of "a wide range of ages".
'Two parties fled the scene immediately after the incident, ' the tweet added.
The blast left 15 people injured, three of them critically.
That position was echoed by Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, who said there was "no connection to national security at this point", calling it an "awful, violent incident". Mississauga lies about 20 miles (32 km) west of Toronto. On Friday, police said the three were now in stable condition and noted that the remaining victims suffered minor or superficial injuries.
