A gripping documentary series about Adnan Syed's infamous case is being made
Podcasters became obsessed with the case of Adnan Syed through Serial, which investigated the disappearance of 18-year-old Baltimore County high school student Hae Min Lee.
The podcast Serial was inspired by a documentary reality series about a mysterious death, and now the crime covered in Serial is becoming a documentary reality series.
Since the airing of Serial, Syed's conviction has been vacated, and he was granted a new trial.
For those who were consumed with this story, HBO and Sky said the series will include "ground-breaking revelations that challenge the state's case".
Directed by Oscar-nominated documentarian Amy Berg ("Deliver Us From Evil"), the four-hour series is titled "The Case Against Adnan Syed".
Adnan Syed was convicted in 2000 of killing Hae Min Lee, his high-school sweetheart.

Welch vacated Adnan Syed's conviction and granted him a new trial after new evidence challenged the reliability of the cell phone data that linked Syed to the crime scene, and a long-awaited alibi witness finally had her day in court. According to a press release, producer Amy Berg has been given unprecedented access to those closest to the case - including Syed's family and friends, defence team, and members of the Baltimore City law enforcement.
In production since 2015, the documentary series closely re-examines the events leading up to Hae Min Lee's disappearance.
"We'll be offering viewers a compelling window into one of the most talked about murder cases in recent years", Sky's director of programming Zai Bennett told Variety.
NBCUniversal International Studios will distribute The Case Against Adnan Syed internationally.
A premiere date has not been announced.
It's also been revealed that Nick Cave will provide original music for the upcoming project.
