AG Paxton urged to launch full investigation into Karolyis
The Texas Attorney General's Office should take the steps of the MI attorney general in aggressively pursuing charges against the men and women who enabled Larry Nassar - the former doctor for the US women's Olympic gymnastics team - to sexually assault more than 200 young female athletes, a group of survivors and their lawyers said at a press conference Thursday morning. Nassar admitted in court earlier this year to using his influence as a trusted medical doctor to sexually abuse young girls over two decades and was sentenced in February to 40 to 175 years in prison. He has been accused of molesting more than 200 people over the course of almost 30 years. The former gymnasts claim that Bela and Martha Karolyi, who ran a USA Gymnastics training center in Texas for almost 20 years, knew about the abuse and did not try to stop it.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott asked the state's top police agency, the Texas Rangers, in January to investigate Karolyi Ranch. The press conference is expected to being at 10:30 a.m.at the AG's office.
The investigation is now being handled by the Texas Rangers and the Walker County Sheriff's Office. "If requested by the local DA or law enforcement officers now working this investigation, our office will gladly and immediately assist with this investigation and prosecution".
Lawyers for the women called that investigation insufficient, saying there have been no search warrants or charges yet issued.
The Karolyis, who have publicly denied having any knowledge of the allegations, including in an emotional interview last month with NBC, have also launched their own lawsuit against USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee, asking for damages for the canceled sale of their facilities to USA Gymnastics.
"Were you ever advised by any USAG official in or around June of 2015 that they had received a complaint that Dr. Nassar had molested a national team gymnast at the ranch?" the interviewer asked, to which Martha replies, "Yes I did".
Karolyi answered, "Yes, I did".
Her lawyer now says she misspoke in her deposition.

Witnesses are allowed to make corrections to misstatements in depositions in what's known as an "errata sheet".
"The whole thing is just like an explosion, a bomb exploding", Bela Karolyi said. But there was no change to her statement about what the gymnastics official told her about Nassar.
