So when Pollock went down late in Monday's 7-2 loss to the Brewers with a sprained left thumb, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo couldn't bring himself to face a near future without his cleanup hitter.

Saladino homered with one out in the ninth inning, a play on which Arizona center fielder A.J. Pollock dived for the ball but could not get it as it rolled to the fence.

Tyler Saladino added a two-run, inside-the-park homer in the ninth for Milwaukee, which improved to 4-and-1 on its current 10-game road trip.

The Brewers and D'backs continue their three-game series Tuesday night in the desert.
