Amazon Prime Members Are Getting New Discounts at Whole Foods
Amazon is taking the next step in its integration with Whole Foods Market, confirming that it will offer 10 percent discounts on Whole Foods sale items and special deals on top grocery items to its more than 100 million Amazon Prime members. If Amazon could get all of those Prime customers to start shopping at Whole Foods, it "would become one of the top 5 grocers in the country", Ladd said. While Hetu expects a relatively high proportion of Whole Foods shoppers are Prime members, it's not clear the reverse is true. These savings are now available in all stores across Florida and will expand to all Whole Foods Market and Whole Foods Market 365 stores nationwide starting this summer.

Amazon started offering delivery from Whole Foods to Prime customers in selected markets earlier this year. The company says it ultimately plans to make Amazon Prime the Whole Foods Market customer rewards program. Pushing special savings through Prime is a way to reintroduce the Prime customer to Whole Foods, Ladd said. Shopping at Whole Foods Market is now even more convenient with Amazon Lockers, where customers can pick up and return eligible Amazon purchases at almost 400 Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.
Amazon has fired another shot across the supermarket industry's bow.
