Apple Privacy Portal

Apple Privacy Portal

Apple has launched a new Data and Privacy portal, providing a method for users in the European Union to download all of the information that Apple has associated with them. If you are downloading content like iCloud file and photos, it could take up to a week to have that prepared for you. Once you've selected a size, you can finalize the process and Apple will begin collecting your data. However, once your data is deactivated, not even Apple can access it. For the most part, the data is gathered so as to dictate your purchasing customs, political affiliations, and interests so as to feed you advertising or information which could be most relatable for you. Choose "Get started" and tick the checkboxes next to the data options you want to download.

The feature is now restricted only to users in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland but will we rolling out internationally later this year.

To download a copy of your Apple data, head to privacy.apple.com and click "Obtain a copy of your data".

The data involved will revolve around your Apple ID account and your iPhone's info plus any data that you have synced to through iCloud.

As reported by The Verge, however, it looks like they'll soon roll this out worldwide, within the next few months or so. Data about your activity at Apple's online and physical retail stores are also available, including repairs users have requested and their AppleCare support history. Non-EU users can still request for data corrections or deactivate their Apple ID.

Deactivation does not mean Apple will permanently delete your data. However there is the question of can Apple back up their claims on how they value their users' privacy?
