Piscotty's mother, Gretchen, passed away May 7 after a battle with ALS.

It's been an emotional time for Oakland Athletics outfielder Stephen Piscotty.

Piscotty, batting eighth, hit a home run Tuesday night in his first at-bat since his mother's funeral.

Piscotty, whose mother, Gretchen, died May 6 after a almost year-long battle with ALS, held his hand over his heart as he ran down the third-base line and he patted his chest as he crossed the plate and looked upward.
