'Avengers: Infinity War' Wins Mother's Day Weekend Box Office
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and made for close to $300 million, Infinity War marks the third Avengers film and the 19th installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie also bowed in China this weekend, powering a massive $281.3 million worldwide haul. That's well above the previous record holder in dollar amount, Monster Hunt 2 with $187.9 million, but the current exchange rate has created some confusion over whether Infinity War beat the film in terms of local currency.
Amitabh Bachchan, who finally took out time to watch Hollywood superhero flick Avengers: Infinity War, says that he did not understand anything in the film.
Because of the massive success of "Infinity War", the box office is up 4.9 percent for the year, and a slew of blockbusters coming up are hoping to continue the success, including "Deadpool 2" and "Solo: A Star Wars Story" just one week later.
The weekend's major studio releases, Life of the Party starring Melissa McCarthy and Breaking In starring Gabrielle Union, performed about as anticipated.

Life of the Party is the third collaboration between McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone. The Warner Bros. release stars McCarthy as a woman who decides to go back to college with her daughter. In comparison, "The Heat" opened in 2013 with $39 million, "Spy" with $29 million in 2015, and "Tammy" with $21.4 million in 2014.
That was better than the critical mauling received by Universal Pictures' "Breaking In", which generated $16.5 million against a forecast of $15 million from Box Office Pro. It was a good start for the low-budget film, which cost an estimated $6 million to make. Reviews have been poor, and moviegoers gave it a B CinemaScore.
The second weekend of Lionsgate and Pantelion's comedy "Overboard" landed in fourth with $10 million, while the sixth weekend of Paramount's "A Quiet Place" secured No. 5 with $6.3 million.
