Big Ben: Mason Rudolph remarks taken out of context

Big Ben says he'll try to help Rudolph

Big Ben hadn't made contact with Rudolph until last week, and it now seems that the two-time Super Bowl victor has entirely changed his perspective on the young signal caller. Earlier this month, Roethlisberger said on his radio show that the Steelers could have used the pick on a win-now player, and that he might have to "point [Rudolph] to the playbook" if he asks a question, although he softened that stance later in his answer. A suggestion here. A comment there.

Roethlisberger said he gave Rudolph a few tips and said he will help the rookie out just as he has others. "I've had a lot of quarterbacks through here who were younger than me that I've tried to help any way that I can, so I'll continue to do that".

Roethlisberger also appeared to bristle at the idea of having to tutor Rudolph in those initial remarks, but he insisted at Tuesday's organized team activities that his words were not meant to be serious. "I was surprised when they took a quarterback because I thought that maybe in the third round, you know you can get some really good football players that can help this team now", Roethlisberger said in a radio appearance on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.

Turns out, Ben Roethlisberger was just kidding. Roethlisberger is the now but Rudolph may very well be the future. "That's not it at all", Roethlisberger said. You don't have to put every throw on guy's chests as hard as you can. That's a great opportunity for a nice easy touch pass. "Just trying to instill little things like that".

Rudolph told the media on draft night that it's not up to Roethlisberger to teach him anything, and that it's his own job to learn.

Roethlisberger didn't hesitate when asked if there's anything that stood out about Rudolph during their initial workout.

Country's secular fabric is under threat: Archbishop of Delhi
He also clarified that the letter "did not pertain" to the Modi government and that he was raising concerns as a citizen of India. Keeping in mind all that's happening in our country we said that we look forward to the next elections and next government.

"He has a big arm", Roethlisberger said. "Seems to understand the offense". Seems to not have any issues in the huddle.

Any potential "controversy" - be it real or imagined - remains far off at best.

The Steelers will only carry three quarterbacks out of camp.

Instead, the Steelers quarterback said he was proactive in helping the rookie, giving him advice on an overthrown ball to fullback Roosevelt Nix.

While Washington certainly has his flaws as he enters the National Football League level, he should be able to smooth out a few of them throughout the remainder of the offseason as long as he's able to remain healthy, which is something he was certainly able to do during his college career as evidenced by him never missing a game.
