New Trump administration attack Reviving the abortion “gag rule”

"A win like this would immediately disentangle taxpayers from the abortion business and energize the grassroots as we head into the critical midterm elections", Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List, said in a statement.

Last week, the Trump administration announced a proposal to defund Title X, a federal program founded in 1970 that provides funding for preventative health services and family planning at clinics across the country.

The Washington Post reported the new requirements are similar to those that were in place, although not enforced, under President Ronald Reagan. "The end result would make it impossible for women to come to Planned Parenthood, who are counting on us every day", said executive vice president Dawn Laguens. The administration drastically expanded a global gag rule past year, banning USA global health assistance to any nongovernmental organization overseas that discusses abortion with patients or engages in any advocacy or public education related to abortion.

"For many women, this would effectively ban safe legal abortion altogether because they can't afford the cost of time off work, childcare and travel over multiple days", Krasnoff said. "That should alarm anyone who ever wanted to know the facts about their own healthcare or feel the doctor-patient relationship is sacred and should be protected", she said.

Moreover, the proposal does not cut funding for family planning services.

Planned Parenthood is already challenging in court a change the Trump administration made to eligibility criteria for the Title X program which the organization argues would "warp" the mission of the almost half-century-old program. The largest effect would most likely be felt by women who do not have health insurance, particularly in states that did not expand Medicaid under the 2010 Affordable Care Act.

He also clarified that the letter "did not pertain" to the Modi government and that he was raising concerns as a citizen of India. Keeping in mind all that's happening in our country we said that we look forward to the next elections and next government.

The proposal would require Title X grant recipients to maintain a strict physical and financial separation between their family planning programs and abortion services.

Planned Parenthood receives millions of dollars in funds each year from the $286 million program. As abortions declined in Minnesota, from 14,450 in 2000 to 9,953 in 2016, the local Planned Parenthood reported growth in the procedures amid the closures of other clinics that provided abortions. Planned Parenthood and other groups filed lawsuits that blocked the rules, and while the Supreme Court decided in 1991 that they could move forward, they were never fully carried out.

"We receive more than $1 million in federal Title X funds, but we will turn away that funding and find other ways to raise support to maintain our integrity and our patients' best interests", Robert Hayes, chief executive of the Community Healthcare Network, which receives over $1 million in federal Title X funds, said in a statement. A ban on abortion after 20 weeks, which made it through the House of Representatives, failed in the Senate. In April, 154 U.S. House members sent a letter to HHS Secretary Alex Azar asking for a rule to prohibit tax dollars from being use to promote abortions. It took the lead in the abortion business in this country when a NY affiliate began performing the procedures in 1970.

Women and their partners don't need additional barriers to accessing reproductive health care or exercising their legal right to decide if and when they want to become parents. Many reported taking Misoprostol, a drug used to induce abortion medically in conjunction with other medication, which without medical supervision carries unnecessary risks including internal bleeding and infections due to incomplete or partial abortion.

Known as Title X, the family-planning program serves about 4 million women a year through clinics, costing taxpayers about $260 million.
