Boston Dynamics will start to sell robots-dogs
Marc Raibert, founder of the company Boston Dynamics, which created the robots, made the announcement Friday at the TechCrunch Sessions robotics conference at the University of California, Berkeley.
The creators of the SpotMini - the four-legged (and zero-headed) robot that is gaining global fame for its increasingly sophisticated skills - are ready to make them commercially available.
The company says it has plans with contract manufacturers to build the first 100 SpotMinis later this year for commercial purposes with them starting to scale production with the goal of selling SpotMini in 2019. He didn't say how much the robot might cost.
So how might people use SpotMini, other than freaking out their neighbors?
When the SpotMini will go up for sale isn't clear, but the company has been teasing its features in recent months, showing that the robot dog can also open doors with the help of an attachable robot hand.

"The SpotMini robot is one that was motivated by thinking about what could go in an office - in a space more accessible for business applications - and then, the home eventually".
"Once the operator presses "GO" at the beginning of the video, the robot is on its own", Boston Dynamics added.
The company is also working on add-on packages.
A video shared by Boston Dynamics on Thursday shows the bot in autonomous mode, effortlessly navigating indoor and outdoor surroundings, obstacles and stairs like a real-life pup.
Additionally, he sees consumers customizing the bot with their own hardware and software to meet their needs.
