Arsenal are in talks with Jean-Michael Seri's agent about a possible £40m move but the Nice midfielder favours a switch to Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper says Arsenal are now pushing hardest to get a deal agreed with director of football Raul Sanllehi holding talks with Seri's representatives about a possible £40m move to the Emirates. His exploits had brought forth interest from a number of top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Arsenal and others. However, the move away from Nice never materialised and he subsequently stayed in France.

The African star has scored two goals and has made five assists in 30 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

However, with the Ivory Coast worldwide maintaining his level of performances, the suitors have only ended up increasing in his pursuit. But they're understood to be wasting no time as it relates to transfers, given the early opening date for this year's summer transfer window.

Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table this season to miss out on a place in the Champions League for the second successive season.

If either side are to land the midfielder this summer, though, they will need to cough up a considerable sum.

However, Arsenal still have a long way to go in their pursuit as Chelsea remain in pole position to sign the player. The reason hasn't been mentioned, even as both clubs face managerial uncertainties in the capital. It now remains to be seen if Arsenal can do anything to usurp Chelsea in pursuit of the 26-year-old, or if the Blues succeed in signing him.
