8 Sherpas summit Mt Everest in a first for the season
Everest is the ultimate mountaineering "trophy", but the rising number of inexperienced climbers attempting to tackle the summit are running huge risks to reach the top of the world.
Meanwhile, a team of rope-fixing Sherpas opened a route to the summit of Mt Everest from Tibetan side, becoming the first team to scale the world's highest peak from the north ridge.
Shrestha said that Xia is the first double amputee to scale the Mt Everest from the Nepal side while he is the second double leg amputee to climb the Mt Everest. "More than 180 climbers along with their climbing Sherpas will begin their summit pushes tomorrow after the Climbalaya team opened the route", he said.
The ruling was overturned by Nepal's top court in March, which branded it as discriminatory towards people with disabilities.
He became stuck in the frigid low-oxygen environment near the top of Everest and suffered severe frostbite, losing both his feet.
