Israeli forces kill dozens in Gaza protests as anger mounts over US embassy move to Jerusalem
Israel has faced worldwide criticism over its use of live fire, but insists its actions are necessary to defend the border and stop mass infiltration from the Palestinian enclave, which is run by Islamist movement Hamas.
The US embassy move on Monday was accompanied by mass protests and clashes along the Gaza border in which Israeli forces killed about 60 Palestinians.
The Palestinian also said that Hamas forced women and children to the front lines of these attacks in hopes that the IDF would hesitate to shoot.
Gaza analyst Akram Attallah, pointing to the smaller number of protesters since Monday's deaths, said: "I can see there is a retreat because of the Israeli bloody response...but Friday will represent an indicator to where things are going".
"The protests will continue because they have not achieved their goals yet", said Hazem Qasem, a spokesman for the group.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales were among officials who attended a ceremony inaugurating the new embassy at an office park in the disputed city, which is at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The overnight raid by Israel came after it said gunfire from Gaza targeted its soldiers and damaged a house.
"We urge all sides to avoid escalation of the situation so as to create a conducive atmosphere to resume the peace process", the Ministry of External Affair said in a statement.

Earlier Wednesday, Hamas official Salah Bardawil said a TV interview, referring to the violence Monday and Tuesday, that in "the last rounds of confrontations, if 62 people were martyred, 50 of them were Hamas".
Cogat, the military body for Palestinian civilian affairs, said Tuesday it has transferred 53 tons of medical equipment to Gaza this week, including medical fluids, bandages and physical therapy treadmills.
The Palestinian Authority, nevertheless, has declared three days of mourning for what it describes as a "massacre" of its people by Israeli forces.
