Rouhani reiterates Iran's commitment to nuclear deal

Following the signing of 5 MoUs on economic and cultural cooperation, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena attended a joint press conference on Sunday in Tehran.

"The U.S. withdrawal.is a violation of morals, the correct way to carry out politics and diplomacy and against worldwide regulations", Rouhani during a meeting with visiting Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena.

Rouhani stressed the need to achieve Iran's economic interests as a condition to continuing with the nuclear deal.

Rouhani took the decision during a government meeting for his economy team, which included Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif and Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh.

Though sanctions were relaxed under an global deal, US President Donald Trump pulled out of the deal, casting uncertainty over the deals.

With the deal on shaky ground in the face of fierce opposition from hardliners at home, some analysts say Mr Rouhani faces the prospect of serving out his second term as a lame duck leader.

"I am announcing today [May 8] that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal", he stated at the White House.
